Are We Worthy? Deserving and Earning the Public’s Trust
Nonprofits have a unique station in American life—our organizations are granted special privileges in exchange for the services we provide. Those privileges also come with responsibilities: to be accountable to the communities we serve, to be transparent about our work and operations and to comply with every relevant local, state and federal regulation.
In this session, we’ll talk about what “accountability” means in practical terms: who are our communities, and how do we hold ourselves accountable to them? We’ll explore the concept of transparency and consider what nonprofits must, can and should do to be transparent. And, as a timely measure in these post-Sarbanes-Oxley days, we’ll seek ways that nonprofits with limited time and resources can ensure they meet all their compliance obligations in good order. |
