The Community Foundation is dedicated to providing ongoing trainings in Weld County for nonprofit organizations and community members. The CommUnity series offers workshops on popular topics such as grant writing, marketing, development, and governance. They are designed to help nonprofit organizations build capacity so they can better serve the community.
2019 Nonprofit Governance Training Series
The Nonprofit Governance Training Series is designed to provide nonprofit leaders, both Board and staff with solid proven concepts for developing a great governing board. The series consists of six separate presentations all of which will be from 11:00am – 1:00 pm at the FMS Bank Community Room.

Great governing boards are comprised of great board members. This training identifies the characteristic of high-powered volunteers and what draws them to organizations. It will also provide a powerful, intentional recruitment strategy.

Great governing boards are built on a solid foundation. This training identifies how to establish a strong foundation that sets the stage for great governance. It will also incorporate some of the governance best practice suggestions from the Principles and Practices book.
How to Maintain a Strategic Focus – March 19th
Great governing boards know their highest calling is planning for the future. This training identifies the seven essential elements of a strategic planning process to engage and elevate your board’s role in creating a bold and compelling vision.
How to Position the Board to Provide Financial Oversight – April 16th
Great governing boards need the right information to govern effectively. This training identifies the right information to provide your governing board to enable them to fulfill their responsibility for financial oversight without getting lost in the details. Participants receive many simple examples of how to provide meaningful financial reports to their board.
How to Position Your Board as Strong Advocates – May 21st
Great governing boards serve as enthusiastic advocates for resources in the community. This training identifies why board members are reluctant to engage in fundraising and provides 12 concrete steps to make them strong advocates. It also incorporates some of the findings from the Colorado Generosity project.
How to Enable Your Board to Govern Through Effective Policy – June 18th
Great governing boards lead through the establishment of effective policy. This training identifies advantages of a policy-based governance model and how to implement the transition to this highly-effective governance process. Participants will receive a step-by step guide on how to work with their board to develop effective policy.
